Gifting an experience can be wonderful for adults, teens, even older kids when you just don't know what to get them anymore. For younger kids though, as much as they might enjoy the experience, they still want to open something on their birthday or on Christmas morning. Here are my top 5 meaningful gift ideas for children to receive before a trip, intended to spark excitement for their upcoming adventure.
5. A plush toy. Does your child have a favorite princess or favorite character that you might be able to see on your trip? A plush toy is a perfect gift that they can take with them on the trip. It adds to a great character interaction experience. This isn't just for theme park vacations either. Are you going to a zoo or aquarium as part of your vacation plans? Get a plush of an animal they will see there.
Disney Plush Dolls - These plush dolls are the perfect size to carry with you around the parks and as a great lovie.
Disney Plush Pooh Bear - My daughter carried this to our Crystal Palace character dining breakfast at Magic Kingdom where we met Pooh Bear, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore. Every one of them used the plush in their interactions with my daughter. It was a great ice breaker for my shy little one.
Aurora Mini Elephant - We love how soft and adorable these Aurora plushes are and we love that they're made from recycled material!
4. LEGO sets. My youngest child has recently developed a strong interest in LEGO sets. She enjoys constructing them and then creating elaborate stories with them. There are LEGO sets for many different interests, characters and ages, which really makes this a perfect gift for anyone. Choose one that relates to the vacation you are about to take.
3. Arts & Crafts. This is a broad category and really depends on the age of your child. We have given coloring books, foil art, 3D models, and most recently 5D diamond painting, but there are so many options. Many of these are also great items to bring along for road trips, to use during downtime in the hotel, or even to pass the time while kids wait for their meal to arrive at a restaurant. Here are some of our favorites.
2. A gift card / souvenir money. Inevitably, no matter where you're going on vacation, kids will want to buy a souvenir. One of my favorite things to give my kids before our vacation is some spending money. This helps them know exactly how much they can spend on something they want and they have full control over the purchase. My kids love this level of independence. To make it fun, especially for younger kids, put the gift card inside a wallet or little purse for them.
1. A kids camera. This has by far been the best gift we have bought our kids before a big trip. They have loved taking pictures of things that interest them, and as a parent, it's so much fun to see these pictures! My youngest child loved taking selfies with characters on our recent trip to Disney World. I also bought my kids photo albums after our trip. My kids chose the pictures they wanted to print out and put their albums together on their own. This makes such a great keepsake! Much like with a gift card, having a camera gave my kids a level of autonomy that they really enjoyed.
Pre-vacation gifts add extra magic to your trip. Pick something special to enhance the excitement and make lasting memories!
